In addition to all FM requirements, this position provides a lead role in assisting with the oversight of a consistently more severe youth who may be more diverse, volatile, and persistent (and/or have unique needs) with behaviors, safety concerns, and/or impairments. Candidates for this position will be required to provide strong skills in engaging and teaching youth, demonstrate effective, positive, & proactive abilities to anticipate behaviors and reinforce alternatives, and implement creative and supportive interventions that are interactive, safe, & consistent with the program standards. This position will also be a expected to model and adhere to related New Haven practices and policies (including house standards & reports, etc.) and may be asked to assist with training or unique agency needs. Candidates will need to demonstrate competency & understanding of NH policies & practices, have knowledge of numerous strategies and behavioral techniques effective for a variety of client behaviors, in addition to experiencing success in a like environment. Two years of successful agency experience or a degree in the field and like experience required (MA degree a plus). Must retain approved driving status (in addition to all agency training requirements).

This counselor position educates and supervises youth as per the Child Care Counselor criteria; however, additionally and consistently demonstrates sound judgment, strategies, techniques, and self-control, to interpret, work, and carry out the supervisory directives and program concepts on an ongoing basis, ensuring effective, safe, and successful supervision while working with a unpredictable and/or consistently volitile clientele. This is an opportunity to assist in a project-based learning environment, focused in the culinary arts field. You will use your expertise to support the Special Ed Teacher with all the educational requirements of the classroom environment AND implement curriculum relative to youth learning skills which create will create vocational opportunities in all of the culinary arts disciplines - from cooking (simple to complex), to food presentation, to menu delivery & planning, to nutrition, to restaurant management.

This position may also support the residential program with shift coverage and a.m. support so all of the agency requirements (including interventions) is required. While a BA degree is desired, knowledge and love of the culinary arts is essential, with some restaurant management desirable.

Assume all responsibilities of Child Care Counselor in addition to overseeing and assuring that all house recordkeeping and reporting requirements are efficiently and accurately maintained. This position is also looked to as a lead counselor who understands program structure and requirements . The FM will lead staff, when necessary under the direction of the Program Specialist, and train new staff to assure program consistency is carried out.
