Welcome
to New Haven Youth & Family Services.
New
Haven has been effectively working with youth and their
families since 1967. Most of the young men who enter
our program are between the ages of 12 – 17. Most have
either a mental health condition or a family conflict
which contributed to their failure to function effectively
within their families and/or within their school environment.
We understand the difficulties that lead to placing
a child into a treatment program and recognize the hope
and relief that parents or caretakers are needing. You
can be assured that our services and trained staff provide
the best possible care and support for young men, allowing
them to again become healthy and productive members
of communities..
Our
mission relays our belief and goal of building positive
futures for youth, their families, and our communities.
Every resource in our organization is directed towards
that goal. We believe that these young men have the
ability, but for one reason or another have lost or
are unable to get in touch with the desire to lead productive
lives. We know this of unrealized potential - it affects
us all. It is New Haven’s goal to address these problems
and offer both the environment and the programs to build
anew.
Most
young men stay an average of one-year. During that
time they will work through varying phases of our therapeutic
programs, complete/continue their high school education,
and receive vocational skills. Relationships developed
during their stay assist them in defining and developing
appropriate skills and behaviors.
Our
logo depicts the holding of two hands in a home, symbolizing
the healing power of the therapeutic relationship between
an adult and child. We
believe that teaching a child comes by invitation, and
only after a trusting relationship has been formed.
Our logo reminds each of us at New Haven of the positive
impact we can have on the lives of our youth once a
relationship of respect and positive regard is developed.
