SPECIAL
ED TEACHER
Job Description
Help youth
build positive futures! Work with troubled teens in
a therapeutic, special education program. This position
teaches male youth (ages 12-17) and serves as a member
of the treatment team for youth. By believing in each
youth's ability to hope and plan for a better future,
we accomplish our mission of "Building positive
futures for youth, their families, and our communities".
Be a part of a committed organization of staff who work
passionately with these kids who have been affected
by physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse and family
distress.
Primary
responsibilities of the teacher include:
- Develop
and deliver effective, individualized instruction
using a combination of direct, computer-assisted,
and small group techniques.
- Implement
and support New Haven treatment programs, interacting
positively with youth as recommended through program
counseling techniques and instruction.
- Demonstrate,
oversee, and employ effective classroom management
practices to insure that the environment is both conducive
to learning and safe.
- Case
Manage IEP's, including ITP's of all assigned students
(12 per classroom)
- Communicate
effectively with parents/guardians and staff.
Skills/
Requirements: Clear California Mild/Moderate Special
Ed Teaching Credential REQUIRED. (Special ED Interns
considered depending on program requirements and availability
of fully qualified candidates). Prior teaching experience
and experience working with adolescents in similar setting
desired. Ability to engage, motivate, and manage behavioral
treatment/educational plans. Ability to write and communicate
clearly and professionally. Ability to represent organization
internally and externally. Ability to work independently
and as a team member. Basic computer skills.

Full Time, Salary DOE. School year 225 days.
